Robin Hancock

Co-Founder, Wright Brothers Sea Change Foundation

Robin co-founded Wright Brothers in 2002 with brother-in-law Ben Wright, initially as London’s first oyster merchant for over 30 years. The business has expanded over the years to become one of the UK’s premium seafood wholesalers suppling over 800 restaurants in London, the South West and now nationally from depots in Billingsgate and Brixham.

In 2005, Wright Brothers opened their iconic restaurants at Borough Market and Robin oversaw the expansion of Wright Brothers restaurants to 5 sites by 2019 of which 3 continue to operate in Borough Market, South Kensington and Battersea Power Station.

Robin also oversees Wright Brothers At Home, their direct-to-consumer channel, delivering the best restaurant quality seafood nationwide.

Wright Brothers also ran their own oyster farm for 10 years from 2005 re-establishing the Helford estuary to its former glory as one of the finest oyster production areas in the UK as well as creating an amazing marine eco environment.

In 2025, Robin led the establishment of Wright Brothers Sea Change Foundation, a charity focusing on projects supporting fishing communities, conservation and sustainability.

Robin is also involved with various Government, industry and conservation initiatives and discussions:

  • Sentience committee consulted on 2022 legislation with SAGB and DEFRA
  • APPG committee consultation on pacific oysters in United Kingdom

Current projects and partnerships:

  • Shell to Shore  - Blue Marine Foundation, The Crown Estate, Essex Wildlife Trust
  • Collection of oyster shells from London restaurants to transport to Essex for weathering before introduction to inshore ocean areas to recreate native oyster reefs
  • Fisherman’s Mission – financial donations to this charity that offers support for struggling or retired fishermen and women in the UK
  • National Lobster Hatchery – growing and re-introducing juvenile lobsters to the ocean
  • RFVS – responsible fishing vessel standard: working alongside retail to establish this standard with Brixham fishing fleet with it’s focus on crew welfare and responsible fishing
