Barry McGowan on taking Fogo de Chão global
As more UK restaurant brands look overseas for growth, we’re bringing a heavyweight of the US restaurant industry to the Peach 20/20 Leaders Summit who’s done it – and is still doing it. At scale.
We're delighted to welcome Barry McGowan, CEO of Fogo de Chão, to London on 18 November.
A restaurant industry veteran with decades of experience, including senior leadership roles at Brinker International and Macaroni Grill, Barry has navigated multiple economic cycles, ownership changes, both public and private markets and international expansion.
And Fogo is quite a story.
Founded in Brazil in 1979, international ambition is in its DNA. From family-owned beginnings to a global restaurant powerhouse, acquired by Bain Capital in 2023 in a deal reportedly valued at $1.1 billion.
Now firmly on the UK map following the acquisition and rebranding of Fazenda, the company also has sites across the Americas, Europe, Middle East and Asia.
Barry’s vision? A Fogo in every major global city.
What interests us most is the thinking that underpins that ambition. A culture that travels. A balance sheet that creates options. The confidence to take calculated risks.
Barry knows there’s never an easy time to run a restaurant business. But there are always pockets of opportunity for those prepared to find and seize them.
How do you balance global ambition with commercial discipline? And build a business ready to capitalise when opportunity knocks?
Big ambition. Robust fundamentals. Real-world experience.
Exactly the sort of international perspective and big-picture thinking we want in the room at Peach.
See you on 18 November.
